Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Andahuaylillas – Raqchi – La Raya – Pucará – Puno

We will begin our Ruta del Sol Cusco Puno early in the morning. At 06:00 AM, we will pick you up from your hotel in the historic center of Cusco. Then we will transfer to the departure terminal to start our journey toward the southern Andes. Along the way, we will admire charming Andean villages and wide valleys surrounded by snow-capped peaks.

Andahuaylillas:

Our first stop will be in Andahuaylillas, home to the famous “Sistine Chapel of the Andes.” Inside, we will admire impressive murals, colonial paintings, and baroque-style decorations that reflect the fusion of Andean and Spanish art. We will have time to walk around the main square and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this small town.

Raqchi:

Next, we will visit Raqchi, also known as the Temple of Wiracocha. This ancient Inca site was once a major religious and administrative center. We will explore the tall adobe walls, ceremonial fountains, and ancient terraces that once served pilgrims of the Sun God. Local artisans will also show us their traditional pottery and weaving techniques.

La Raya Pass:

After lunch, we will continue our route to La Raya, the highest point of the journey. Here, the Andes will display a magnificent view of snow-covered mountains and grazing alpacas. We will stop to take photographs and breathe in the crisp Andean air. This is where the Cusco and Puno regions meet.

Pucará:

We will then continue to Pucará, one of the oldest Andean settlements. In the Pucará Lithic Museum, we will learn about pre-Inca sculptures and ancient ritual artifacts. The town is also famous for its colorful Toritos de Pucará, small bull-shaped ceramics symbolizing protection and prosperity.

Finally, we will reach the city of Puno (3,827 meters above sea level) around 05:00 PM. We will conclude the Ruta del Sol Puno Cusco surrounded by the culture of the Altiplano and the tranquil beauty of Lake Titicaca nearby.

Our driver Julio Cesar took us on time and safely to all amazing places and experiences beating the crowds. The guide, Erik, was the most passionated guide I've met. An incredible story teller, knowledgeable and giving us a superb experience. It was a real perfect day and an amazing almost private tour feeling like a super engaging history class. Don't think twice."

"The tour starts very early type 3-4 am, how good you can sleep on the way, we breakfast in a very good buffet and then depart for the mountain. Here the height is the problem, you can walk up but it requires a lot of condition, the good thing is that there are horses that you can pay and for 90 suns they leave you 15-20 minutes from the top. Wear layered clothes as you can warm up when climbing. We already walk down and the road is much easier. On horseback you go up in 40 minutes, you are on the mountain an hour to take pictures and the return is about 1 hour or so. In the end we still had lunch in the same very rich buffet!"

"Recommended! What a beautiful place!!! Most of us went up there on mules. Important to clarify if the person weighs more than 110 kg he will not be able to carry it and will have to walk up. It is still very expensive, to have proper footwear."

"I loved that the travel agency made everything easy for me in Cusco. All I had to worry about was being on time for pickup and choosing what to eat at the buffet. The agency itself took care of everything. If I could highlight anything, it's the fact that I had a different guide on each tour, and they were all very kind and polite. They did their jobs well and knew how to explain the history of each place."
