Our adventure will start early in the morning as we head toward Cusipata, located about 110 km south of Cusco. Along the way, we will pass small Andean villages where traditions remain alive through agriculture and local culture. We will continue our route surrounded by majestic peaks and enjoy short stops to appreciate the stunning views.
We will begin our trek toward Waqrapukara, reaching an altitude of 4,300 meters above sea level. The hiking trail will offer impressive scenic drive where we will see herds of llamas and alpacas grazing freely. We will walk through ancient Inca paths that connect us deeply with the natural world and its energy.
Once at the site, we will explore the stone formations shaped like “horns,” a symbol of power and mystery in Inca culture. We will start the adventure between 04:00 and 05:00 hrs with pickup from our hotels in central Cusco. The road will lead us through the southern valley, where dawn paints the mountains in golden light. After 1.5 hours, we will arrive in Cusipata at 3,310 meters above sea level. Here we will enjoy a warm breakfast and prepare for the day trip trek.
We will continue our drive toward Santa Lucía (Punta Carretera), located about 50 km away. Along the way, we will see small Andean villages and farming communities that keep ancient traditions alive. Upon arrival, we will organize our gear and stretch before beginning our hike toward Waqrapukara.
Trekking to Waqrapukara – 10:00 hrs
We will start our trek surrounded by majestic mountain landscapes. The air will feel pure, and the silence will be broken only by the wind. The path will gradually ascend through rugged terrain filled with native vegetation and herds of llamas and alpacas, demonstrating the local flora and fauna. We will follow a well-marked route that offers panoramic views of the Apurímac Canyon.
During the hike, we will take short breaks to rest and capture photographs of the Andean scenery. The path will allow us to connect with the highlands’ tranquility and the strength of the mountains. As we approach the site, the iconic twin rock formations of Waqrapukara will appear on the horizon.

Exploration of Waqrapukara – 11:00 hrs
We will arrive at Waqrapukara, an ancient Inca fortress shaped like two large horns. This site combines nature, mysticism, and Inca engineering. Our professional bilingual guide will explain its historical significance and the role it played in Andean culture.
We will explore the stone platforms, temples, and ceremonial areas that overlook the deep Apurímac Canyon. From the top, the view will extend over the mountains, valleys, and rivers that surround the sacred site. We will have time to meditate, take photos, and feel the energy of this unique place.
Lunch and Return – 13:00 hrs
After exploring, we will walk back to our starting point. Once there, we will enjoy our box lunch with a panoramic view of the Andes. The fresh air and the silence will make this moment unforgettable.
We will then board our transport back to Cusipata, enjoying the changing light of the afternoon on the Andean peaks. The return trip to Cusco will take approximately 5 hours.
Arrival in Cusco – 18:00 hrs aprox.
We will arrive at the Plaza de Armas of Cusco, where our journey will end. The day will leave us with memories of a place full of mystery, history, and spiritual energy.

Waqrapukara is a pre-Inca and Inca fortress originally known as Llaqta Pukara. It was home to the Qanchi leader and his family. The site also served as an astronomical observatory and a sacred sanctuary dedicated to the god Tecsi Pachacamac Wiraqocha.
