Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Rainbow Mountain Quad Bike Tour

Your Rainbow Mountain quad bike tour begins in the early morning, around 4:00–4:30 AM, when our team picks you up directly from your hotel in Cusco. Leaving the city in the quiet of dawn, the journey takes you through the Peruvian Andes, passing small villages, farms, and valleys painted with the morning light.

After about two hours, you’ll stop in the town of Cusipata to enjoy a traditional buffet breakfast, fueling up for the adventure ahead. Here, your tour guide will brief you on the day’s itinerary and answer any last questions before continuing to the starting base.

From Cusipata, the road winds upward until reaching the starting point near Japura. This is where the adrenaline kicks in — you’ll receive helmets, gloves, and a full safety orientation before mounting your quad bikes.

Once ready, the group sets off on an exhilarating ATV ride of approximately 30 minutes across rugged trails surrounded by towering mountain ranges and herds of alpacas and llamas. The crisp mountain air, combined with views of snow-capped peaks in the distance, makes this ride an unforgettable part of the journey.

Rainbow Mountain Quad Bike Adventure: ATV Ride, Hike & Andes Views

The quad bike route ends at a designated parking area, from where you’ll continue on foot. A moderate hike of about 60 minutes takes you up to the summit viewpoint of Rainbow Mountain Vinicunca, located over 5,000 feet above sea level. Along the way, your tour guide will point out unique flora, fauna, and explain the geological forces that created the rainbow-colored stripes of the mountain.

At the top, you’ll have plenty of time to rest, take photos, and fully enjoy the landscape. The view from here is simply breathtaking: Rainbow Mountain’s natural colors stretch across the horizon, framed by vast valleys and the looming presence of the Ausangate glacier.

After taking in the scenery, you’ll descend back to the quad bikes and enjoy another thrilling ride back to the base. From here, your transportation takes you to a local restaurant in Cusipata for a delicious buffet lunch — the perfect way to end an action-packed morning.

Finally, the return drive brings you back to Cusco by approximately 5:00 PM, where you’ll be dropped off in the city center. The Rainbow Mountain in quad bike experience is a full day adventure combining culture, adrenaline, and the magic of the Andes. For travelers who want to try something different than the traditional hike, this quad bike Rainbow Mountain tour is a highly recommended way to create lasting memories in Peru.

"Machu Picchu Peru Tours full day Sacred Valley was an amazing highlight of our trip to Peru. Do not miss it! Our driver Julio Cesar took us on time and safely to all amazing places and experiences beating the crowds. The guide, Erik, was the most passionated guide I've met. An incredible story teller, knowledgeable and giving us a superb experience. It was a real perfect day and an amazing almost private tour feeling like a super engaging history class. Don't think twice."

"The tour starts very early type 3-4 am, how good you can sleep on the way, we breakfast in a very good buffet and then depart for the mountain. Here the height is the problem, you can walk up but it requires a lot of condition, the good thing is that there are horses that you can pay and for 90 suns they leave you 15-20 minutes from the top. Wear layered clothes as you can warm up when climbing. We already walk down and the road is much easier. On horseback you go up in 40 minutes, you are on the mountain an hour to take pictures and the return is about 1 hour or so. In the end we still had lunch in the same very rich buffet!"

"Recommended! What a beautiful place!!! Most of us went up there on mules. Important to clarify if the person weighs more than 110 kg he will not be able to carry it and will have to walk up. It is still very expensive, to have proper footwear."

"I had the wonderful experience of coordinating a group trip with Carolina from this agency, and it was very positive. They were always willing to help and facilitate the trip. On the tours, we had the opportunity to meet Alex on the Sacred Valley tour. He is an excellent guide, very friendly and knowledgeable about all the sites, making the tour very entertaining. In Machu Picchu, we were guided by Edmar, an excellent, knowledgeable, and friendly guide."

"I loved that the travel agency made everything easy for me in Cusco. All I had to worry about was being on time for pickup and choosing what to eat at the buffet. The agency itself took care of everything. If I could highlight anything, it's the fact that I had a different guide on each tour, and they were all very kind and polite. They did their jobs well and knew how to explain the history of each place."
