This half-day experience combines history, culture, and breathtaking Andean landscapes.
Coricancha – Temple of the Sun
We will start at Coricancha, the ancient Temple of the Sun, once the most sacred Inca temple. Dedicated to Inti, the sun god, its walls were once covered in sheets of pure gold. The Inca architecture perfectly aligns with the stars and solstices.
After the conquest, the Church of Santo Domingo was built over its foundations, symbolizing Cusco’s cultural fusion. Here, we will admire exquisite Inca stonework and colonial art. Your guide will explain how this sacred temple functioned as the heart of Inca spirituality.
Sacsayhuamán Fortress
Next, we will visit Sacsayhuamán, a massive Inca fortress overlooking Cusco. Built with giant limestone blocks, some weighing over 100 tons, it showcases the precision of Inca engineering.
From the top, we will enjoy panoramic views of the city of Cusco and the surrounding mountains. Your guide will share how this site served both as a ceremonial and defensive complex.
We will walk along the terraces, marvel at the zigzag walls, and capture photos of this extraordinary Inca masterpiece.
Qenqo – The Sacred Labyrinth
We will continue to Qenqo, a fascinating archaeological site known for its carved rocks and mysterious tunnels. Archaeologists believe it was used for religious rituals and astronomical ceremonies.
Here, we will explore natural formations that resemble altars and sacred symbols. Your guide will explain the spiritual meaning of these carvings and their role in Inca cosmology. The site offers a deep sense of connection to Andean beliefs and nature.
Puca Pucara – The Red Fortress
Our next stop is Puca Pucara, which means “Red Fortress” in Quechua. The site takes its name from the color of its stones at sunset. It was likely a military checkpoint that protected access to Cusco.
We will explore the terraces, towers, and stairways while learning how the Incas used this structure to control routes leading to the Sacred Valley. The view from Puca Pucara offers a stunning glimpse of the surrounding valleys.
Tambomachay – The Temple of Water
We will end our Cusco City Tour at Tambomachay, also known as the Baths of the Inca. This site features beautifully carved aqueducts and waterfalls that still flow with crystal-clear water.
It is believed to have been a temple dedicated to water and purification ceremonies. We will walk through this peaceful place and feel the refreshing Andean atmosphere. The site reflects the Inca’s deep respect for nature’s elements.
