We will start our route across dirt roads surrounded by panoramic mountain views and colorful farmlands. After that, we will continue towards the Huaypo Lagoon, located at 3,507 meters above sea level. We will ride along scenic trails while feeling the cool Andean breeze. At the lagoon, we will admire crystal-clear waters that reflect the surrounding snow-capped peaks. The tranquility of the place will allow us to rest, take photos, and feel nature’s harmony.
We will return following rural paths that cross picturesque Andean communities. Throughout the route, we will observe farmers, herds of llamas, and panoramic views of the Sacred Valley. This tour will offer the perfect mix of speed, culture, and natural beauty in just a few hours.
Detailed itinerary
Day 1:
Cusco – Huaypo Lagoon – Maras Salt Mines
Day 1: Cusco – Huaypo Lagoon – Maras Salt Mines
We will begin our exciting adventure with two available schedules: 06:00 hrs or 13:00 hrs. Once we confirm the schedule, we will depart from Cusco toward the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The drive will take about 45 minutes to reach Chequereq, a peaceful community surrounded by beautiful farmland.
At this point, we will practice how to handle the ATVs safely before starting our route through the Andean countryside.
We will continue riding our ATVs toward the majestic Huaypo Lagoon, located at 3,507 meters above sea level. Along the way, we will admire the vast open landscapes, local crops, and the daily life of Andean farmers.
Upon arrival, we will have time to rest, enjoy the scenery, and take photos of this magical lagoon. The clear waters of Huaypo reflect the snow-capped peaks of Verónica and Chicón, creating perfect moments for photography lovers.
We will listen to local stories and legends about the lagoon, known for its deep spiritual meaning and calm atmosphere.
Our journey will continue along a scenic dirt road toward Maras, a charming Andean village with colonial architecture and traditional houses. We will enjoy panoramic views of the Urubamba Mountain Range, surrounded by golden fields and snow-covered summits.
After a brief stop in Maras, we will descend by transport to the incredible Maras Salt Mines, also called Salineras de Maras. Here, more than 3,000 natural salt pools create a bright white landscape that contrasts with the brown slopes of the valley.
We will learn about the traditional salt extraction process that has been used since Inca times. We may also taste Andean chocolate with Maras salt, a delicious local specialty.
After exploring this fascinating site, we will return to Cusco, enjoying the rural scenery along the way. Our adventure will end around 13:00 hrs or 19:00 hrs, depending on the selected departure time.
