MOUNTAIN BIKING AND TREK TO MACHU PICCHU

ITINERARY

 

Day one : Cusco - Habra Malaga - Santa Maria

Our journey begins enjoying the panoramic view of Cusco as we travel to Ollantaytambo, from where we ascend to 4350m above sea level, up to  Malaga. At that point we leave the bus and mount our bikes and begin the descends (our tour guide might change the starting point in case of fog). We ride downhill enjoying the vastness and beauty of La Convencion Valley. The scenery changes from dry to leafy forest as we approach the temperate zones. Arrival to Carrizales, where we have lunch. After lunch, we visit  the Wamanmarka Inca ruins, arriving to Santa Maria (1130m) five hours later. Dinner and overnight at a basic lodge or campsite.

 

Day two : Santa Maria - Santa Teresa

After breakfast, we start our trek in search of unforgettable adventures along full vegetation paths, across coffee and coca plantations, following original Inca trails. Here we can see  ourselves between the Inca trail network history. Visit to  Santa Teresa medicinal hot springs. Dinner and overnight at a basic lodge or campsite.

 

Day three : Santa Teresa - Aguas Calientes town

After breakfast (around 8:00 am) we set off on the trek, crossing the Vilcanota river in a hanging basket or oroya, one of the most exciting experiences for those who look for adrenalin. We also enjoy the great variety of butterflies, parrots, iguanas, birds and bugs. Lunch at the hydroelectric station and  continue to Aguas Calientes. Where we have dinner and a brief explanation of our activities for tomorrow; the best day of our lives. 

 

Day four : Aguas Caliente town - Machu Picchu - Cusco

Early wake-up to visit one of the modern world wonders, Machu Picchu "Lost City of the Incas". Starting at 1980m, we ascend to (2450m above sea level) our trip takes  approximately one hour and 10 minutes. when we are half way up,  we stop for breakfast-box. Our tour includes a two-hour visit to the site, and time to explore the ruins on your own. At  designated time, we meet in Aguas Calientes. Having enjoyed a trip rated as the best trekking trips of the world, we return to Ollantaytambo by train.
